Taiwan National Day Parade, Toronto

Taiwan National Day Parade, Toronto, October 7, 2007

On October 7, 2007 the Toronto Taiwanese community organized an event to celebrate the fact that Taiwan is a sovereign, independent country. 22 Million people live on the island.

The celebration was held at Metro Hall in downtown Toronto. At 1:00 pm the celebration began with an array of entertainment including the lion dance, a traditional instrumental performance, and folk dancing. The Tian Guo Marching Band then performed while the dignitaries walked onto the stage. After the speeches and the singing of the national anthems of Canada and Taiwan, the Taiwan National Day Parade was held.

This is the second year in a row that the Tian Guo Marching Band was invited to participate in the celebration. The parade route included the fashion district and many surprised shoppers were delighted to hear the lively music of the band. Many showed their approval by clapping their hands and taking photographs.
