Fiesta Week Celebration, Oshawa, June 17, 2007

The Oshawa Folk Arts Council proudly presented the 35th Annual Fiesta Week from June 17 to 23, 2007.

Fiesta week is described as "A Taste Of Durham". It is an annual week-long Multicultural Festival that gives the residents of Durham Region the opportunity to experience European, Asian and Carribbean cultures and foods without having to get on a plane.

The festivities began with the Fiesta Parade on June 17 at 12:30 p.m. This was the first time that The Tian Guo Marching Band was invited to participate. Approximately 100 band members joined the parade. Then, the chamber band performed the national anthem of Canada to officially open the afternoon concert at Memorial Park. After the VIP speeches, the chamber band returned to the stage and played three songs. The stage manager was very impressed with the performances.

Some of the dignitaries that were in the audience included Mayor John Gray, City of Oshawa, Hon. Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), Hon. Consiglio Di Nino, Senator, MPP Jerry J. Ouellette and MP Colin Carrie, Parliamen tary Secretary to the Minister of Industry.
